Yahoo!. Five Things You Don’t Know About iCarly’s Reed Alexander
Anyone who watches “iCarly” knows Reed Alexander. For six seasons he’s played Nevel Papperman, Internet critic and Carly Shay’s arch nemesis. But even though he’s the Nickelodeon show’s bad guy, in real life the teen actor is a really good guy. Here are five things you might not know about Reed Alexander.
He’s a ‘Star Wars’ Fanatic
As a kid growing up in South Florida, Alexander was interested in acting at an early age. While performing in the comfort of his own home, his go to characters were from his all time favorite film franchise – “Star Wars.” Alexander would play young Anakin Skywalker and his later, darker alter ego Darth Vader. According to his official website, Alexander confessed, “Okay, I’ll admit it… I’m a ‘Star Wars’ super fan!). I was never without dramatic music and a lightsaber and Force powers.”
He Kick Started His Own Career as a Kid
After acting in school plays and taking on public speaking jobs while growing up, Alexander got a few professional gigs. He appeared in a promotional short for BankAtlantic and a CBS Football commercial before deciding to kick his career into a higher gear. When he was just eight years old, he did an Internet search for talent agents in Los Angeles. When his parents found out, they had a family meeting and agreed that he could pursue a career. It was a good choice. Alexander landed a job on his first L.A. audition – a Wendy’s commercial.
He Has a Good Heart
Despite his “iCarly” persona, Alexander is actually a very caring person and supports several charitable organizations. In past years he appeared at the Chiera Foundation Charity Ball and Golf Tournament, which supported the American Cancer Society’s Reaching Out to Cancer Kids (R.O.C.K.) Camp Program. And last year he started the Healthy Lifestyle Campaign, which is based on the 90-10 plan. His thought – 90% of the food people eat should maintain good health and 10% of food intake should be just for fun.
He’s a Major Foodie
Part of the reason that Alexander’s pushing the Healthy Lifestyle Campaign is because he’s a major foodie. In 2010 he launched a website called Kewlbites. Alexander shares tips on exercise and his favorite playlist tunes. But he also posts tasty but nutritious recipes. Alexander has also taken his passion in the kitchen to TV. He’s made several appearances on the “Today” show, whipping up delicious treats with Hota Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford.
He’s Interested in Politics
The 19-year-old actor is also very interested in politics and campaigned locally for the 2008 presidential election. And earlier this year he attended former President Bill Clinton’s inaugural Health Matters: Activating Wellness in Every Generation conference at the Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, California. Other heavy hitters supporting the cause included Chelsea Clinton, Deepak Chopra and “The Biggest Loser’s” Jillian Michaels.
